Progress on the megaupdate

Since this patch is pretty huge, and is probably going to take another week or so, I figured I’d do a little write up on exactly what has been implemented. As well as what is still to come.

We implemented what is most likely all the new items coming in 1.4. There are 7 of them. I might add 2 more, but those are pretty complicated code wise, and I don’t want to push the patch back a few days for only 2 items.

Both of the new regular enemies are implemented. A flying skull named Skortch and a surprisingly agile undead soldier named Die Namenlos.

Both of the new weapons have also been implemented. A rocket launcher and a Sickle. The sickle is a melee weapon like the trident, but it returns to you after being thrown. I’ve temporarily removed the Trident from the game.

Travis remade the HUD.

We added 2 of the most requested features: an indicator for when you’re taking damage, and an invincibility timer. Here’s what the HUD looks like when you’re taking damage:

We have also begun working on the new room layouts for 1.4. There will be 55 new rooms in 1.4 if my math is correct. We’re shaking up the room design with some big new props.

I’ve also been fixing bugs and re-balancing the game.

All we’ve got to do now is implement the 5 new bosses and 2 new minibosses, as well as make some more rooms.

Dear YouTube. We would love for people monetize their Paranautical Activity videos.

Apparently one of our favorite youtubers, Bisnap (http://www.youtube.com/user/bisnap), is having trouble monetizing their Paranautical Activity videos. So as the creator of the game (who owns all the code, graphics, and music) I give full permission for Bisnap and any other youtuber to create and monetize any Paranautical Activity content. Be it a review, let’s play, interview, soundtrack cover, or anything else.

As a game developer with no cash to blow on marketing, YouTubers like this are very important to us for getting the word out. So if you’re an LPer or reviewer, and YouTube is giving you trouble on monetizing your content, send them a link to this post. If that doesn’t do, you can email us and we’ll give you express permission to use gameplay however you see fit.

The 1.4 Megaupdate!

We have given a lot of thought on what we want to do for the 1.4 update, and we’ve decided to take on our most large and ambitious patch yet.

The plan is to add at least:

  • 2 new floors
  • 10 new items
  • 5 new bosses
  • 2 new enemies
  • more room variety
  • 2 new guns
  • 2 new minibosses

This patch is pretty crazy, but I’m pretty sure if we stop slacking off, we should be able to make it happen in 3 or 4 weeks.

Paranautical Activity V1.1 Release Date and Plan

Today, we planned out the content we want to add for the next Paranautical Activity patch we’re gonna push to Desura.

The next patch is set to drop by Feb 28th, and will contain 2 new floors, 5 new items, 2 new enemies, 2 new bosses, and a new gun.

We’re also working on a number of bug fixes, balance tweaks, and GUI updates.
